Contrasting My Personal Philosophy of Nursing
I will reflect on my personal philosophy of nursing in the paper because I started the RN-BSN program, and the way it has evolved. My first entry into the program involved an orientation in which I did not receive a specific orientation into nursing, and I only did what was necessary to complete my tasks, as well as met the minimum requirements to provide patient care. I had little or no idea about nursing, as I merely believed that I was supposed to accept the orders of the doctors, administer them the medicine, and ensure that they were safe. However, my attitude to the problem has shifted significantly following the experiences in academics and exposure to such professional concepts as evidence-based practice, leadership, and patient-centered care. At this point, nursing is a complex and evolving field that requires critical thinking, life-long Learning, and participation in patient outcome optimization. In the next paper, I will share how my career goals have changed over the past two, five, and ten years, my philosophy and nursing, as well as how I have developed into a lifelong learner.
Professional Objectives and Practice transforming Two-, Five-, and Ten-Year.
My career aims at the start of the RN-BSN program were quite narrow, as I wanted to remain in the same clinical setting and have fresh experience as a bedside nurse. The huge possibilities that it presented had not been well informed to the nursing profession. Still, my attendance in the program could give me knowledge about the future trends and opportunities in nursing, particularly in clinical practice and leadership. The special training and certification are the clinical competencies that I will develop within a two-year timeframe and assist me in offering quality care to the patients. Another thing I would like to know about additional activities in my work environment is mentoring new nurses and engagement in quality improvement programs.
My other short-term goal is to become a leader/supervisor in five years, since I will be capable of improving patient care outcomes and assisting the nursing staff. Specifically, I would be happy to work in such areas where I could influence the decision-making process and develop the concept of evidence-based practice within the healthcare facility. To realize this, I envision myself 10 years down the line in an advanced or leadership position to the extent that I would be able to impact healthcare delivery on a bigger scale, whether it is through clinical leadership, education, or healthcare management. These are the long-term career objectives since I desire to develop as a professional and make contributions to the nursing profession.
My behaviors, attitudes, and practices as an individual have also changed significantly under the RN-BSN program. Among the significant changes, there were my transformation to evidence-based practice and abandonment of a task-focused approach to care. In the past, I had a habit of being inconsiderate when adhering to the routine and instructions without doubting the rationale of some interventions. The current activity I am undertaking is research and best practices to undertake my clinical decision-making proactively. This has enhanced the quality-of-service delivery that I offer, as well as increased my confidence as a professional nurse. The other example is the development of my leadership skills. With an ancient group of people, I would never take up the role of leadership or offer an opinion. However, now I possess the culture of teamwork and advocacy, and I am not afraid of being engaged in group discussions, forming ideas, and supporting patient-oriented decisions. These experiences have been relevant to my career interests and have placed me in a situation where I will be able to accept new nursing opportunities in the future.
Formulation of My Personal Philosophy of Nursing.
Since I got into the RN-BSN program, my nursing philosophy has transformed remarkably. Firstly, the nursing abilities were mostly linked to the physical care, orders, and patient safety. Such arguments are so imperative, yet my knowledge concerning nursing has already been extended, and it has already become balanced. I have also been taught to trust that nursing is a profession that involves taking care of the whole person, either regarding their physical, emotional, psychological, or social needs. The next opportunity I learned to practice in the provision of quality care is advocacy, cultural competence, and ethical practice. Nursing is no longer just a job to me; it is a professional demand, and one that I need in the context of changing the lives of people, their families, and their communities.
One of these practice changes is that currently, I am more focused on patient-centered care that presupposes the involvement of patients in the decision-making and consideration of their preferences and values, including cultural beliefs. This plan has not only helped me improve my communication skills but also has enabled me to build an efficient and more effective relationship with patients. Consequently, there has been a rise in patient satisfaction and health outcomes. The other significant transformation is that I have been more responsible and professional. My individual dilemma is to ensure that I keep myself up to date with the latest best practices in the play, and also to ensure that I maintain high standards in my practice. I also appreciate the significance of the ethical decision-making process, and I adhere to the values and principles of the nursing profession in every sphere of my practice. All these are signs of my change as a more competent, better, reflective, and professional nurse.
Career Development and Lifelong Learning.
I consider myself a lifelong learner because I also know that the essence of the discipline of nursing is a dynamic topic that necessitates continuous Learning and personal development. The RN-BSN program has helped me realize that Learning does not end after getting the level, but it will be a continuous process throughout the career. The new achievements in the sphere of healthcare, innovations, and research presuppose that nurses are expected to be aware of the new tendencies and could evolve to be competent enough to offer safe and effective care. The interest in asking a question, critical thinking, and inquiry about knowledge is also something that has penetrated my mentality. The attitude change has involved me in pursuing opportunities for personal and professional development. The ability to implement the evidence-based practice in my day-to-day practice can be defined as one of the examples of my lifelong Learning. I am also more demanding and educated about the latest studies and use newly gained knowledge in practice when I manage patients. This has helped me to build my skills in clinical decision-making, or more precisely, patient outcomes. The second one is that I am ready to accept the feedback given by my colleagues at my workplace and evaluate my experiences to summarize the problems that I need to improve on. It would also make me more willing to get an opportunity to learn, participating in the training program, the professional dialogue, and attending the continuing education program. These are not the final stages that would prove that I want to know more and that I am working towards becoming a better nurse. Lifelong Learning is another notion that I anticipate seeing in the future shaping of my professional life.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the RN-BSN program has been a tremendous achievement in my career objectives, philosophy, and lifelong Learning of nursing. I am now able to describe myself as a nurse who has grown more informed, reflective, and active, as well as to embrace the use of evidence-based practice, leadership, and the importance of patient-centered care. Such changes in my practices, attitudes, and behaviors have provided me with numerous opportunities and issues in the nursing career over the next few decades. In my future career, I would make efforts to realize unlimited development, professional growth, and contribution in the sphere of healthcare. That is why this change has not only assisted me in becoming better, to a certain extent, but also has made me more dedicated to ensuring quality care and service to the profession of nursing.
