Ystaas et al. (2023) write about transformational leadership and its impact on the nursing profession and patient outcomes in their article. The article is a Systematic Review of the correlation between Transformational Leadership and job satisfaction, teamwork, communication and work environment of nurses. Based on the results, they were able to conclude that transformational leadership can be advantageous in creating positive, supportive nursing work environment. It facilitates staff working in groups, increases staff morale and helps in staff development. The study also found that this leadership style correlates to better patient care as they are more satisfied with the care they receive, have less medical error and increased patient safety. Nurse leaders play a vital role in assisting to establish a healthy, productive health care climate for both nurse and patient.

It is published in a peer-reviewed nursing journal and is a reliable and helpful source as it is recent systematic review. The article is based on research outputs from a number of research studies; the conclusions that it is able to draw are prudent and objective. The article will be useful in the understanding of transformational leadership and its contribution to enhancing the nursing practice and health care outcomes. Assignment 3

Introduction

Throughout your master’s level coursework, you will be tasked with writing annotated bibliographies. Scholarly writing is an expectation in this course as well as in the program.

Reviewing articles is an important part of the graduate nursing journey and in this course. In preparation for Week 2 Assignment 1: Annotated Bibliography—Nursing and Leadership Styles, please write a brief annotated bibliography on one research article that will be reviewed by your instructor who may provide guidance on writing the other two annotated bibliographies for this course.

Instructions

For this assignment, find one research article on a nursing leadership topic of interest and write a brief annotated bibliography for the article.

Reminder: The research article should be related to nursing leadership.

Guidelines

You will write an annotated bibliography for one research article related to your topic of interest on nursing leadership. The article’s annotated bibliographic entry should be two to three paragraphs.
The Purdue OWL has a good guide to writing annotated bibliographies; you are encouraged to follow the format outlined on Purdue OWL specifically relating to summarize, assess, and reflect. The following are excerpts from the Purdue OWL Annotated Bibliographies guide and should be used to direct the writing of your annotated bibliography.
Summarize. Some annotations merely summarize the source. What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine the degree of detail of your summary.
Assess. Is it a useful source? How does it support the focus of your paper? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? What is the goal of this source?
Reflect. Ask how this source fits into your research. Was this source helpful to you? How does it help you shape your argument? How can you use this source in your research project? Has it changed how you think about your topic?
Write your annotated bibliography in your own words. Do not use the abstract of the article as your annotated bibliography.
The article you select must be at a graduate level. All articles must come from academic/professional reference journals. You cannot use articles from introductory nursing journals (such as Registered Nurse (RN), American Journal of Nursing (AJN) and so on).
