For this assignment we are to write a personal philosophy about ourselves. This can all be made up, however a brief about me. I have been a nurse for 8 years, started out as a LVN and then went for my ADN. I have worked in ER, PCU, psych, detox, and medical surgical. I became a nurse because I enjoy helping others at their worst.

In this module’s Assignment, you will draft a formal paper expressing your personal philosophy of nursing paper. In this paper, you will provide a framework for your personal practice of nursing and reflect on why you chose nursing as a profession. Personal Philosophy of Nursing
I started my nursing career eight years ago as a LVN and transitioned to ADN. My choice of nursing is based on the desire to help others. Nursing is a calling to serve, and I am drawn to persons in need. In getting into nursing, I am pursuing an honorable career while earning a living that meets my financial needs. As I proceed with my nursing career, my mission is to diligently provide personalized, non-judgmental care to all persons in need, regardless of demographic differences, including disability, financial status, lifestyle choices, spiritual beliefs, ethnicity/race, or sexual orientation (Alligood, 2022).
My philosophy on nursing is that nurses are responsible for providing the public with patient-centered, holistic, and safe care. Although nursing became a formal profession in the early 19th century characterized by regulations and training, it existed long before that. In fact, nursing is a traditionally old profession that has been part of human society for as long as there has been ill health. At the core of nursing is the understanding that patients are not the medical conditions or rooms. Rather, they are individuals who require and deserve personalized care and attention. Nurses address this component by leveraging their knowledge and clinical skills to meet the patient’s needs (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023). In addition, nurses act as advocates who represent patients and empower them to be active partners in their care while setting mutual goals. Besides that, nurses should maintain patient privacy and confidentiality, a responsibility mandated by health information laws and nursing standards. Additionally, nurses take on the role of health educators, who educate the patients on diseases, treatments, and health behaviors while linking them to needed resources within the community for maintaining good health and well-being. Furthermore, nurses act as role models who exhibit positive healthy behaviors that patients can emulate (Huston, 2023).
Nurses must be committed to continuous learning. This commitment helps keep up with current knowledge and skills. In pursuing continuous education, nurses evolve professionally by adopting technological advances and evidence-based practices that improve healthcare outcomes. My vision for nursing is to engage in perpetual learning from publications and interactions with other health professionals and patients to keep nursing relevant. I want each day of my life as a nurse to be a learning experience that improves my professional knowledge, competence, and skills. (Masters, 2020)
My core values and beliefs are that nursing should be characterized by family, security, lifelong learning, persistence, honesty, integrity, kindness, and success. These values and beliefs guide my decisions in achieving my goals and how I live my life. Integrity, knowledge, and caring are at the core of nursing. The primary focus of nursing care is to meet the patient’s needs and provide safety, healing, and empowerment. My core values and beliefs are congruent with the core of nursing. The qualities that make me a good nurse cannot be turned on and off between shifts. Rather, they are part of who I am (Murray, 2022).
My vision for the future is the continued evolution of nursing as more advanced medical technologies are adopted and integrated. Nurses are the essential human element in healthcare delivery, and the future will continue to emphasize the human element even as healthcare shifts towards more advanced technologies. Within the context of future nursing, I intend to become a nursing leader who advocates for patients and patients and ensures they are not overlooked at any point in policy making (Murray, 2022).
Nursing stems from a desire to help others while engaging in gainful employment. What makes nursing stand out is personalized care that matches a patient to specific care approaches and objectives. Nurses stand out by providing patient-centered, holistic, and safe care. Nurses must continuously learn professional knowledge, competence, and skills as an evolving profession.
