What I learned about my leadership style from my responses to the Questionnaire

My self-concept of leadership from the Leadership Styles Questionnaire in Leadership: Theory and Practice is “transformational leader”. The outcomes indicated that I appreciate working collaboratively with others, communicating with others, collaborating with others, and being motivated by others. I also support and motivate others and facilitate them to achieve common goals. Inspirational leadership for transformational leaders takes the form of positive relationships, trust, and a clear vision for success (Al‐Thawabiya et al., 2023). The Questionnaire also shows that I want to accommodate my students’ ideas rather than give instructions as an authority. The qualities are significant as they help to build trust and respect within the team. The functions of effective management in nursing are emotional intelligence, responsibility, and the ability to influence people through positive actions in difficult healthcare situations. Research has demonstrated that transformational leadership has a positive impact on teamwork, job satisfaction and patient care within a healthcare setting. The information provided in the Questionnaire was useful in understanding my leadership style in regard to the professional nursing values (caring, working with others, caring for patients).

This form of leadership will impact the future professional nursing role of my by…”

I will use my transformational leadership skills in my future nursing career on a large scale. Successful leadership in nursing involves interacting with others, inspiring others in the health care arena, and giving patients quality care in difficult situations. As a nurse, I will be employing this form of leadership in establishing good patient/carer and staff relationships. Open communication and mutual respect are key and fostered in a multi-disciplinary health care setting and through a transformational leadership style. Adalin et al. (2025) discuss the transformational leadership concept and the positive impact it can have on staff morale, minimizing staff burnout, and improving organizational performance. As a leader, I will also promote the care of the patients and evidence-based practice in a health care environment. Moreover, transformational leaders nurture others who are on their team, by coaching and encouraging them to become confident and able. This way of thinking helps me to be a good nurse leader, to foster teamwork and provide high-quality/safe care to patients. Through understanding, working together and improvement, I can offer more effective care and support to help create a positive culture in my workplace.

Leaders’ development and professional learning opportunities

This Questionnaire identified strengths and weaknesses in my ability to be a transformational leader, which was wonderful, but also exposed some areas for growth. In some instances, I do too much, and sometimes I don’t make decisions in challenging situations. The leaders of the nursing profession should have the right amount of compassion, confidence and efficiency particularly in a hectic clinical setting. I will learn and experience to develop my leadership skills, I will enhance my decision making, conflict resolution and delegating skills. In addition, I have leadership strategies for patient needs, co-workers, and the healthcare organization. The approach of the nurse leader should be flexible to varied situations. The Leadership Styles Questionnaire was a beneficial tool to get a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses as an emerging nurse leader. It made me think about transformational leadership in nursing practice and how, as a nurse, I can now further develop my skills so that I can be an informed and influential healthcare provider (Notarnicola et al., 2024).
