Nursing Scholarship
Scholarship, quality improvement (QI), research and evidence-based practice (EBP) are part of the nurse’s practice. This is to assist them in making a clinical decision, ensuring the safe care of patients and provide quality patient centered care.
Nursing and Quality Improvement Scholarship.
The development, use and dissemination of knowledge for the purpose of nursing and health promotion is termed nursing scholarship. The concept of scholarship is utilized by nurses as they learn their entire lives, attend continuing education classes, progress in their profession, read and follow the current health care literature. Nurses will be able to provide safe and effective patient-centered care as they have the latest evidence and best practice on board. The scholarship has a crucial role in enhancing patient outcomes (Rensburg et al., 2025) as it promotes the development of clinical skills and innovative approaches to patient problems. Quality improvement (QI) is a systematic approach to identifying and improving health care and health care product of care. Medical errors and inefficiencies can be prevented by these QI techniques: Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle, performance monitoring and data collection and root cause analysis. Implementing these strategies can give healthcare providers the ability to act better and improve healthcare quality and safety. So, QI helps to improve patient safety, to practice best clinical practices and to continuously improve healthcare systems.
Research and EBP
Nursing research is a systematic analysis of the problems and questions related to nursing care, provision of healthcare and nursing practice. Research produces new knowledge, new best practices, and helps to inform clinical decisions. In support of nurses to ensure scientifically sound interventions are included in a patient’s care plan, which can improve patient outcome, minimize complications and increase treatment effectiveness, Research Evidence is used. Research by nurses extends the scope of nursing and helps them explore and create innovative solutions to meet patient needs (Brunt & Morris, 2023). The use of the best available research evidence, clinical expertise and patient preference to guide health care decisions is known as evidence-based practice (EBP). By ensuring nursing practice is based on up to date and reliable information and not based on custom and personal opinion alone, EBP assures that nursing practice benefits from current and reliable information. Nurses could integrate nursing practice, values and preferences of the patient with research-based knowledge to enhance nursing and care. Positive patient outcomes, patient satisfaction and the quality of health care have been associated with the evidence-based practice (EBP).
Conclusion
The importance of scholarship, quality improvement, research and evidence-based practice are all interrelated and are important in today’s world of nursing. The principles enable nurses to deliver safe, effective and quality nursing care whilst continually striving to improve the care and nursing profession.
