Work-Life Balance: Chapter 4 Concept

A concept I borrowed from Bemker and Whitehead (2024) that can be used to enhance work-life balance is self-awareness. Self-awareness helps the leader become aware of his/her strengths, weaknesses, stressors, and emotional responses. I have been using self-awareness to become aware of when I feel burned out and fatigued, and to create boundaries and limits in my work demands and needs. Worked to be more efficient in my time, delegated when necessary, and spent quality time with my family and myself (Harley, 2024).

Themes: Inspire and motivate others. Chapter 6 Concept: Inspire and motivate others.

One of the concepts from Chapter 6 that has impacted my leadership practice is inspirational leadership by communicating and relating effectively. Try to foster an environment for teammates that is positive, appreciated and respected. I actively listen, encourage and celebrate my colleagues’ achievements and inspire them to think about their professional development and the value of their wellbeing. These actions foster teamwork, resilience and positive work atmosphere (Mazzetti & Schaufeli, 2022).

This course aims to equip participants with the skills to motivate others to reach Work-Life Balance.

I also apply these with myself, and I help others create a healthy work-life balance by developing a set of healthy rules and practices for self-care. Remind colleagues to take breaks, manage stress and get help if necessary. I share strategies that have worked for me, which sets up an environment for staff to have a good display of their work and their personal lives.

Leadership and Mentorship skills to be improved through the Additional Activity.

I want to become more mindful and to exercise more in my life now. Practice of mindfulness improves concentration, emotional intelligence, stress management and exercise supports physical and mental health. These experiences will give me insights into ways to remain calm and cool under pressure, make decisions, and be an effective leader and mentor to others.

Human Factors as part of my DNP Project

There have been a number of human factors that have aided and abetted the implementation of my DNP project, as well as those that have hindered it. The engagement of staff, team working, and willingness to learn were all positive. But there were a few challenges such as resistance to change, a competing workload, various levels of motivation and concerns about new processes. The above factors had an impact on the participation and also on the pace of project implementation.

Steps taken to address human factors.

To address these challenges, good communication, stakeholder engagement, education, and ongoing support were emphasized. Provided staff with the opportunity to ask questions, provided evidence for the project, and emphasized patient impact and workflow changes. I was open to feedback when implementing and adjusted my plans accordingly. They included behaviors which proved to be effective in reducing resistance, enhancing staff involvement and team working (Pellegrini & Lovati, 2025).

Conclusion

My knowledge of human factors has contributed to my ability to start working more effectively in maintaining a healthy work-life balance, motivate individuals and make practice change more effective. Being aware of oneself and inspirational leadership are beneficial ideas for personal and professional development. As a DNP I can see the importance of acknowledging human factors to produce positive outcomes with patients, staff, and organization.

Human Factors

Implementation does not occur without barriers, and one barrier that is important to consider are the human factors. Human factors are essentially anything that can impact the human, aside from other factors like technology, environment, organization, and the task itself. Human factors speak to the issues and concerns that might arise for the human in the implementation process.

For this Blog, you will consider these factors, as well as consider strategies that you might use to minimize these factors

To prepare:

Select a concept related to human factors from the Bemket text, one in Chapter 4 and one from Chapter 6.
Consider how you might maintain a work-life balance.
Consider activities you might implement in your life to enhance your ability to be an effective leader.

Respond to the following prompts:

Discuss how you have applied these concepts to assist yourself in work-life balance, and inspired others to do the same.
Explore an additional activity that you might include in your life in order to enhance your ability to serve as an effective leader and mentor to others. Identify any human factors that have impacted or assisted you in implementing your DNP project.
What actions have you taken to address any issues related to these human factors?
